Carnival Balloons Carnival Games. Carnies, what tricks are used to give the house the edge?
I've heard the old balloon dart game, the balloons are underinflated and the darts are dull. On the BB gun shoot the rifle sites are skewed. The Basket Ball Shoot, the rim of the hoop is bent to an oval. What other methods, past or present, are used to ensure you don't walk away with the giant stuffed animals.
The site referred to in the most recent answer is not a good reference. For instance the Rope Ladder "trick" is not true. You can only beat the rope ladder by climbing it the same way you climb a regular ladder left right with reverse hands and it simply is done by practicing.

MOST all games are not "fixed" and in fact most law enforcement agencies insist that only skill games be allowed on the midway today. But there ARE loads of ways to attempt the games that require a special knowledge of dynamics, etc. to win. I am having a birthday party for my daughter she is turing 12 and the theme is carnival. We have balloon popping and guess the number of jellybeans. I need to know what other types of booths they have at a carnival and what types of prizes we should give out. Boys and girls will be attending the party.
You can go to the crafts store and they have kits that you can get, they're cheap and get a few that you can make sand art, you can pick up a couple of them and this way some of the kids can make their own sand art like at real carnivals!
You can also do a sweets booth with cotton candy, popcorn, and have an ice cream bar with chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream and some toppings. Sprinkles, chocolate syrup, caramel sauce, whipped cream, and marachino cherries and have the kids make their own sundaes. You can get the tall plastic sundae glasses at the dollar store or get the waffle cone bowls at the grocery store by the ice cream cones.
You can then do booths with games.
You can have a ring toss with some soda bottles and have them toss the rings around the 2 liter bottles, just fill them with water or sand to hold them down.
You can do a basketball hoop if you have one and make them have to get either the first shot in or 2 out of 3 shots for a prize.
You can do a pie eating contest, but instead of pie, fill the tins with whipped cream and whoever finishes first, wins!
You can do relay races with potato sack races, three legged races, wheel barrel races (the one where one person stands and holds the other person's legs and they rush to the finish line).
You can do a food booth:
Hamburgers
Hot dogs
Pizza bagel bites
Franks in blankets
Corn dogs
For prizes, you can go to the dollar store and get a lot for your money there and also, go to orientaltrading.com, you can get a TON of things there, even in a carnival them and get WAY more for your money there than at the dollar store and they are VERY VERY reliable!! They are wonderful and they sell prizes in packs of 100, for about $10 or $15, so you'll be set! And they have variety packs. You can even sometimes get the carnival booths there very cheap! Definitely check them out, it's orientaltrading.com you SO can't go wrong with them!
Some ideas though, if you don't end up going there and want to give out prizes are:
-Candy, LOTS of candy! Put together bags of gum, lollipops, etc, everying BUT chocolate, it will melt. Boys and girls will love the candy!
-Lipglosses for the girls
-make-up for the girls
-Nailpolish and nail files for the girls
-Gift cards to Cold stone ice creamery and carvel for both boys and girls
-Movie tickets
-sunglasses
-Fake tattoos
-Nail decals for the girls
-Gift card for a movie rental
-Key chains
-Anything that glows in the dark!
-rubber bracelets
-dog tag necklaces
-pens
-pencils,
I would walk around the dollar store or target or walmart if you don't go to Orientaltrading and see what you can find there. You can just browse and look around and see like you can get plastic cups with baseball emblems of teams on it for the boys, things like that at the dollar store. I live in NY so in my dollar store there's NY Yankee and Met cups in plastic along with plates and bowls and they're a dollar, you can go to your's and get the cups and make them a prize to hand out to the kids that are fans of the teams. You can also get the pens and pencils and notebooks that have names on them or whatever. Walk around, you're bound to finds LOTS there!
