Bear Balloon What to bring to a hospitalized 14 year old girl?
Our niece was just diagnosed with leukemia - tragic, yes - and I want to know what she might like to receive while in the hospital. She's received lots of stuffed bears, balloons, books.......I want to bring her something SPECIAL and UNIQUE that she will remember. Help?

Question about launching a hydrogen balloon?
so i saw this thing about people who launched a hydrogen filled balloon and sent it to the edge of space. Im just wondering if they would need special air traffic clearance (because im certain that a weather balloon filled with explosive gas is not something you want sucked into a jet engine.)

Anyway, you don't need special air traffic clearance, but you should inform the nearest airport control tower about your launch, as the metallic parts produce a radar signature. That would cause more damage to a jet engine than an explosive gas. Did you fail to consider the explosive gas mixture already inside the jet engine that helps produce thrust? If a jet engine drew in a hydrogen or helium filled latex balloon, it might produce a temporary spike in the Turbine Inlet Temperature and Exhaust Gas Temperature as seen on the cockpit instruments. No harm done with that small volume of gasses.
