Suffice it to say that anyone who thinks the travel industry is glamorous — well, all I have to say is “ha, ha, ha, ha”. Just finished up last week on a four-month project that made me understand what it feels like to get sucked into a black hole.I’ve missed you guys. And Dale, I didn’t even open up the video today. Any discussion of standing on plates high in the air is enough to make me queezy. Like many I am not fond of heights — I have to close my eyes when movies and tv do those look-down-into-the-buildings-from-above shots. About 15 years ago, I had the opportunity to go to East Africa and one of the optional activities was a hot air balloon ride. I had never before contemplated going in a hot air balloon, but for some reason that fact that it was Africa made me consider it. It was such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I decided I had to try it. And it was marvelous — for some reason it didn’t seem so daunting once we were up in the air. Because of that experience, I’ve ballooned twice more (nowhere nearly as exotic as Africa however). But I am still afraid to climb up the ladder to change the light on the back porch and I still have to look away when movies and tv shows do high shots. What gives?

Well, that’s a good question. I guess you’d have to ask: what happens when your non-FAA flight crosses into Class A airspace without an instrument clearance and collides with a plane going from London to Chicago? In practice, if it flies over the US, it’s regulated by Congress in some form or another, usually by FAR’s which are designed to be as close to ICAO (international) standards as possible. It doesn’t matter if it’s an F-16, a hot air balloon, or a model rocket.
