Please help me on THIS for 10 easy points!!!?
The depth of the ocean is sometimes measured in fathoms (1 fathom = 6 feet). Distance on the surface of the ocean is sometimes measured in nautical miles (1 nautical mile = 6076 feet). The water beneath a surface rectangle 1.80 nautical miles by 1.40 nautical miles has a depth of 26.0 fathoms. Find the volume of water (in cubic meters) beneath this rectangle. ____m^3
i change all of them to meters then times them together but it wasnt right help please!
The two hot air balloons in the drawing are 48.2 and h = 67.0 m above the ground. A person in the left balloon observes that the right balloon is θ = 11.7° above the horzontal. What is the horizontal distance x between the two balloons? ____ m

thanksssss sooooo much and i think they mean eye level because in the picture its on the eye level
yeah, see thats where i was confused
Okay. For the first problem. Don't worry about the cubic meters until the end. Convert everything to feet first.
1.8 Nautical = 10936.8 Feet
1.4 Nautical = 8506.4 Feet
26 Fathoms = 156 Feet
So volume of a rectangle is LxWxH
10936.8 x 8506.4 x 156
So this is a large number and I'm not going to put it into scientific notation because I'm using the calculator on my computer =D.
14153116101.1199989 Feet^3. =D
So now to go to meters cubed, you need a conversion factor.
3.28ft=1m
So now you need to cube it
35.287552 ft^3 = 1m^3
So now divide the large number by the conversion factor.
So for a final answer I got:
411,281,465.518 (rounded there =D) m^3
As for the second problem.By horizontal, does that mean the ground, or eye level of the left balloon?
The picture helped, but is it given that h=67m?
Well if it was, you need to use trigonometry to figure out x.
okay. So do you know the side opposite the 11.7 degree angle? Yes =D
67-48.2 gives you 18.8
That's the side opposite the angle
so now you have the opposite and you're looking for the adjacent side
So. What trig function involves opposites and adjacents?
Tangent =D
Tan 11.7 = 18.8 (opposite)/x (adjacent)
Solve for x
x = 18.8/tan 11.7
So the distance between the two should be:
90.78176622 m
=D

pythagorean theorem word problems??
both of these problems have images
first problem:
http://i30.tinypic.com/2ef6omx.gif
A hot air balloon is anchored to the ground with 400 meter cables. About how many meters above the ground is the top of the balloon? Round your answer to the nearest meter.
second problem:
http://i27.tinypic.com/qq36f6.gif
From this crash site to the hospital along Goodwin Avenue is 26 miles. Tangerine Way between 4th Avenue and 5th avenue is 10 miles. The ambulance decides that to avoid traffic, it will go the long way, North on Tangerine and East on 5th to get to the hospital.
How much further, in miles, is the Tangerine and 5th Ave route than Goodwin Ave? Show all work involved in getting the answer.
please help thank youu<33!
a)b=(400^2-50^2)^(1/2)
b=397m
b)b=((26^2-10^2)^(1/2)
b=24m
