Yes Hurf. My main ambition is to get the Hubby to find the hoover. But that is not likely.

Finally meeting up with all my friends on P & S would be cool.
There is always Blackpool. I am booked with Ryainair for Saturday. Dougal is not coming in my helicopter again. Red Buttons and stuff have given me nightmares.

Why wouldn't a hot air balloon work at the edge of earth's atmosphere?
Just on the edge of the atmoshpere, Kittinger Jr jumped from a helium balloon. Why wouldn't a hot air balloon work?
There is no definite boundary of the Earth's atmosphere, it just tapers off in to space asymptotically.
We do define an official edge of the Earth's atmosphere arbitrarily at 100 kilometers, the pressure and density at this location is about 3 parts per million of the sea level pressure and density.
This is known as the Kármán line. It is defined as the point above which a vehicle would need to fly faster than the speed needed for uniform circular orbit about Earth in order to sustain sufficient lift to support itself.
If a helium balloon can support itself in the upper atmosphere, a hot air balloon should work. The problem is maintaining enough fuel to keep the air hot, AND that the requisite temperature would need rise a lot such that the density difference of the background air and hot air multiplied by the balloon volume can still equal the mass of the basket, hot air, envelope and payload.
How do you make the envelope thermally able to withstand the hotter air temperatures?
Also, Kittinger Jr. did not go to the Kármán Line, he only went 1/4 the altitude of the Kármán Line.

I think I would love it! I have gone skydiving and parasailed, but no hot air balloon. And I will not bungee jump!!!
