Hot Air Balloon Gifts

My daughter has been wanted the Barbie Three Musketeers for Christmas. My mom has purchased her three of the four dolls. I have purchased her the movie. I was also planning on buying her the carriage that she asked for. However, the reviews I am reading are bad. If you're not familiar with the toy, the carriage transforms into a "hot air" balloon. The reviews say that the clip to make the transition is poorly constructed and easy to lose. Out of 5 stars, it has 1 ½ per reviewers. So, do I disappoint her and not get the toy or waste the money on a toy that will probably break or not be able to function in a couple of weeks - if it makes it that long? Her birthday is in February, so it is something that I could consider buying for her in a couple of months.
